Last Minute Request

Today I had a last minute request from a client needing a Personal Shopper save.  I was happy to oblige.  I always feel tremendous pressure shopping for others since I have their hard earned money in my hands trying to score the best deals!  I try to plan out my buys before I leave as a rough guide to how much things will cost and I will be able to buy with the money I have to shop with.  Today I had no plan as I walked out my door to shop for this client.

The client paid $100.  I kept my normal $25 fee and shopped with $75!  I was able to purchase $166.93 with the $75!  I more than doubled their money!  This haul includes:  8 bags of Tide pods (14 count), 2 Snuggle, 2 Bounce, 2 Gain dishwashing soap, Colgate toothpaste, 5 body washes, a 6 pack Dove bar soap, 2 Loreal shampoos, 2 Loreal conditioners, 3 Scott/Cottonelle 18 pack toilet paper, and a Scott 6 pack mega roll of paper towels!

Shopping for others has great responsibility, but it also comes with great reward.  Knowing the pricing at other stores is very important.  I do not want to overspend personally much less with someone else's money!  I shopped at both Walmart and CVS today for this Personal Shopper save.

CVS advertised Tide pods 14 count on sale for $4.99 this week.  I knew that the 14 count Tide pods are normally only $4.44 at Walmart.  I chose to buy the pods at Walmart given the cheaper price and stack my coupons on that price.  The Loreal hair products this week trigger $4 back in Extra Bucks if you purchase two.  The Loreal shampoo/conditioners are $4.99 each or $.450 each if you purchase 2 or more.  I used a $3/2 coupon and paid $6.50 OOP and received $4 back.  I then purchased 4 body washes in my next transaction and used $3 in coupons along with my $4 from the shampoo transaction and paid only $0.83!

I not only met my clients expectations today, but I also exceeded them with the amount I was able to purchase.  I believe today was definitely a great day to be a Savvy Saving Shopper!

99% Saving

Today I ran out for a last minute request from a client, and I found a great buy for myself!  The items above were on clearance and stacked with coupons it made for a great day as a Savvy Saving Shopper.  The Hershey kisses were on clearance for $0.39 a bag!  I had $1/2 coupons!  Each set of 2 were a $0.22 money maker since CVS allows overage!  The Valentine decals were on clearance as well for $0.39 and the the socks were on clearance for $0.29!

I ONLY PAID $0.62 FOR THE ENTIRE PURCHASE!  I saved $46.30 with the clearance pricing and coupons today!  I plan on gifting the decals to my son's teacher to use next year if she would like.  The kisses will make great toppers to some peanut butter cookies!

The Weather Outside is Frightful

Well if you live where I do, you see that white yucky stuff as you look out your window.  I am definitely not a fan of snow, but really really not a fan of the ice.  I am more of a sand and sun type of person!  Acting as a responsible Mommy, I know that I cannot venture out to "save" on days like today.  Instead I get to stay home and snuggle up with the kiddos!

I am very proud of myself though.  I have cut and organized all of my coupons!  I do not have any extra coupon inserts just hanging out in my binder waiting for me to get to it!  I really do try to stay on top of it since I am a visual person when it comes to couponing.  I like to be cruising an aisle and be able to turn to a page and visually see if I have a coupon to match!  I know that each person has their own way that works for them, but this method I found was best for me.  I do however get caught up in my day to day life and sometimes the inserts tend to pile up in by binder until I have time to get to them.  I admit sometimes I may not get to them entirely.  Sometimes I am that person that stands in the aisle flipping through the inserts to see if my memory is correct and I do have that coupon still.  So I definitely feel a sense of accomplishment today as my binder is organized and ready to go.

I have taken advantage of the ice and snowy day and turned it into a positive.  I have gotten to enjoy a lazy day snuggling with my kiddos.  I have organized my binder. I have updated my shopping spreadsheets.  I have even updated my blog with this quick little post!  If the weather is nice where you are, please enjoy your day.  If your weather is frightful,  please stay safe and warm!

As My Journey Continues

I started this blog as a way to document my journey of savings this year.  I have found myself mainly documenting my "saves" for others and sharing in a group I started on Facebook.  While my life is pretty busy and hectic, and sometimes posting my "saves" for others and sharing to Facebook is easier, I want to make sure I also capture my journey.

I have recently added more "regulars" to my Personal Shopper service!  I am very excited about that. I love to coupon, and to coupon for others is a bonus!  When I first started writing this blog, I was receiving 4 copies of the coupon inserts each week thanks to my coupon subscription service, and I would like to say that I have had to increase my subscription to 10 copies of each insert each week!  I get asked frequently, if I still save money since I have to buy the coupons, and my answer is simply, Yes.  I do pay for the inserts, but the money I save with them more than pays for them.  Personally this month, I have purchased $466 worth of product and I have paid $124 and received $39 back.  I have been so busy shopping for others and thanks to my wonderful stock pile, I haven't need much this month.  I did however, stock up diapers when they were on sale.

My stockpile comes in very handy.  My sister and her husband are going on a mission trip this summer!  They are trying to find different ways to help raise money for their wonderful cause.  I informed my sister that I would put a Blessing Basket together and we would raffle it off.  I will be able to use all of the items from my stock pile to create another Blessing Basket and help raise money for her mission!  The Blessing Baskets are such a hit!  I am thankful that I am able to help with this great cause and purpose thanks to my couponing ability.  I will post a picture of the basket as well as the contents once it is all put together!

I hope you are enjoying my journey as a Savvy Saving Shopper as I share it with you.  I hope you are learning of some great buys!  I hope that you are inspired to find something you love and share it with others!

I received a message yesterday from a single mom that works 2 jobs wanting me to shop for her.  The lady lives about 75 miles from me so I was confused as to how she heard of my services.  A family that I shop for referred me.  I was excited and thankful.  I have one family that loves it so much they are a regular now, and that they love it enough to share their story with others.  I am also thankful that a mother of 2 boys working 2 jobs trust in my saving skills enough to give this a try.  I tried explaining how it worked and she asked me if I had a check list of items she could use.  I of course do not at this time, but that is a great idea and I will soon be working on that.

I had $100 to shop with and I was able to purchase $284.34 worth of product!  I only wish my pictures truly showed how much product this really is.  This Savvy Saving Shopper trip includes:

Dollar General finds 2/9/15

I had a few minutes to myself today and I ventured out to see if I could find any great bargains. Here is what I found at Dollar General:

Wisk laundry detergent is normally $5 at Dollar General ($4.77 at Walmart), and is on sale for $3.50 this week. I used my $1 Wisk coupon from the coupon inserts a few weeks ago matched with this great sale price to score each bottle for only $2.71 including tax!

The Swiffer Duster starter kits are regularly $3 at Dollar General which is less than the $4.44 Walmart price. I used the $2 off any Swiffer starter kit coupon from the Procter & Gamble inserts to get them for only $1 each!! ($1.08 w/tax)

The simply Olay body was is regularly priced at $3. Dollar General has them on sale this week for only $2.25. You can match the sale price with the $1 Olay coupon (P&G) to get a bottle for only $1.35 including tax!

When I ventured out today, the only plan I had in mind was the Wisk savings. I found the other bargains as I cruised the aisles. For me personally, it definitely benefits me to have all of my coupons cut and organizedso I don't miss out on a deal. I have a binder with a table of contents, and coupon holders for each category. I can see what coupons I have on hand at a glance.  Each person organizes differently, and I just encourage you to do what works best for you. If you coupon and organize differently than I do, please feel free to comment on what method works best for you!

$100 later

I had a new client this week, and $100 to be a Savvy Saving Shopper with. I was able to purchase $256.65 worth of product with that $100 bill.

The Savvy Saving Shopper haul included: 7 Tides, 8 boxes of Kleenex, Windex, 7 dawn dish soaps, 2 scrubbing bubble cleaner, 4 tooth brushes, 2 toothpastes, 3 deodorants, 9 body washes, mouth wash, 2 air deodorizers, 2 fabric softeners, 2 lotions, carpet freshener, tide oxy multi purpose, two 18 packs of toilet paper, and three 6 mega roll packs of paper towels.

That is what I was able to do with $100. If you would like me to help you make your $100 go a little farther, please let me know. I would love to help you be a Savvy Saving Shopper or Saver as well.

Huggies

When I found out that we were having a baby, one of my goals was to have a year's supply of household essentials, including diapers, in my stock pile before the baby arrived.  I accomplished my goal.  One family that I shop for currently has two children in diapers and another blessing on the way.  I was recruited to help find a diaper savings if possible.  I know how expensive diapers are, and I was more than excited to help with such request because I had ten $3 Huggies coupons that expired in a few days that I needed to use.  I told my client that as of that day, there weren't any amazing diaper deals, but I would continue to watch.  I told my client that I had ten coupons and worse case scenario I would go to Walmart to use the $3 coupons on each $8.98 pack, and we would pay $5.98 a pack.  Don't get me wrong, $5.98 a pack is great, but I've scored better deals.  The client gave me $70 to buy ten packs of diapers knowing that I would pay $64.74 including tax on 10 packs of diapers.

I received a message from a friend that there was a $2 off of $10 CVS diaper coupon on www.coupons.com/cvs and of course I printed two of those off.  I mapped out a plan with the $2 off of $10 purchase and the CVS sale price of $8.99 and got sale price to be better than the Walmart plan.    I headed out to CVS with a plan in mind, but when I went to CVS and I received two $5 off of $30 diaper coupons from the magic machine!  I instantly started doing the math in the aisle to determine which coupons would work better.

I broke up my purchase into 3 separate transactions and the results are as follows:

Transaction #1:  4 packs of Huggies at $8.99 each.  I used a $3 coupon on each pack and used the $5 off of $30 CVS coupon.  My total after tax was $20.52 for 4 packs.

Transaction #2:  (Same as first transaction) 4 packs of Huggies at $8.99 each.  I used a $3 coupon on each pack and used the $5 off of $30 CVS coupon.  My total after tax was $20.52 for 4 packs.

Transaction #3: 2 packs of Huggies at $8.99 each.  I used a $3 coupon on each pack and I used my $2 off of $10 diaper coupon I printed before my trip.  I paid $10.80 for two packs of diapers.

$51.84 for ten packs of Huggies diapers ($5.18 each)!

I was so relieved that I found such a great stock up price on diapers for this family.  Diapers are so expensive and can really eat away at your budget even if you buy in bulk at a warehouse store.  I still had $18 left from the clients diaper budget.  I sent the client a message and asked if they wanted the $18 back or if they wanted me to coupon the remaining balance.  They said to coupon it out!

I was able to score three Aveeno shave creams.  The shave creams were $4.99 each.  CVS had a promotion to receive $10 in Extra Bucks if you purchased three Aveeno products.  I also had $1 Aveeno coupons.  I bought 3 shave creams and paid $12.96 OOP and receive $10 back in Extra Bucks.  I then used the remaining money and bought six boxes of cereal! I started out just buying diapers and was able to buy more than just diapers!!

My next stop was at Walmart. I had a printed $2 off of any Glade product coupon. I found the glade carpet fresh powder for $1.94 and my coupon made that item a $0.06 money maker!

I also had a $2 coupon off of any Windex purchase. Windex was $2.83 and my coupon reduced that price to $0.83!

Obsessed With Your Phone

I recently watched a quick video with the caption of "If this video doesn't convince you to put down your phone, nothing probably will".  I believe this video nailed it on the head.  As a society we are all so focused on what is going on with our phones and social media sites that we forget to live and miss what is actually going on around us.  I have been guilty of it too, and realized I was.  I am now cognizant of such behavior and try to do better.

Cell phones make it easy to communicate, but I believe we have also lost communication skills with the increased cell phone usage.  I have witnessed some people that now only know how to communicate through a cell phone.  This person(s) can text and send numerous messages via cell phone, but cannot carry on a face to face conversation with the same person(s) when in the same room.  There is an absolute disconnect when this type of behavior is deemed to be okay, yet it seems to be the norm in society.  When I see such a lack of communication skills I begin to worry about how society will be in a few years as such an important skill is lost.  Please take 3 minutes out of your busy schedule and click here to watch this.  Please remember to not be so busy with your phones and social networking sites that you forget to live.

Free Baby Sling

Many days I feel like a prisoner as I journey through motherhood.  I have found it to be very difficult to venture out to the stores because the carts are not big enough to accommodate a car seat safely.  I tend to not go out unless my husband is home or I have a friend over to care for the baby.  I ordered a baby wrap, but when it came in it was very complicated.  I have even watched videos on how to make the wrap work, but I am still not comfortable with it.

Today I found a different baby wrap and it appears to be much easier to use.  I ordered a baby sling from www.sevenslings.com and used a promo code to score the sling for FREE.  I did have to pay a shipping charge of $12.95, but I still consider this to be a great deal.  If you are in the market for a baby sling, you can also get one for FREE.  Promo code B37253823 is good for $40 off of your purchase and the slings are only $39.95.  I look forward to receiving my sling and hopefully finding the freedom I am missing!

Dollar General Score

Today I ran by Dollar General to grab an item that was on sale to finish up a buy for someone I was shopping for. I grabbed one item so I could check the price at checkout and to my amazement it was cheaper than expected! I was then on a mission to find other great prices!! As you can tell, I found some great bargains!

The Tone body wash was on clearance for $1.57 and I had $1 coupons. Each bottle with tax was only $0.62!!

The Bounty napkins were on clearance for $1.35 each and I used a $0.25 bounty coupon. With tax, each napkin pack was only $1.19.

Glade spray deodorizers were on clearance for $1.35. I used my $2 off any Glade product coupons and got them for only $0.38 each including tax!!

Febreze was on clearance for $1.80 and I used $2 off of two coupons and got each one for only $0.87 with tax!!

May belling lip balm was on clearance for $1.57 and I had a $1 coupon! I got the lip balm for only $0.62 including tax.

Listerine whitening mouth wash was on clearance for $2.22 and I used my $1 coupons to get each bottle only $1.32 including tax!

My favorite buy of all is definitely the Dixie paper plates!! I got each pack for only $0.05! Yes, you read that right, only five cents a pack!!

My purchase total came to $42.01 for everything shown in the picture! I was able to stock up on some great rock bottom prices with this find. I do not shop at Dollar General that often, but when I do I have my coupon binder with me and I have found some great sales. I will say though, that not all prices at Dollar General are cheaper than other stores. It is important to know the competitor prices if you want to get the absolute lowest price! I hope you enjoyed this Savvy Saving Shopper share!

January Stats

I started this blog to document my couponing journey.  I keep a spreadsheet where I capture what I spend.  The spreadsheet I used last year tracked my price and overall saving, but not my actual out of pocket.  This year I decided to be even more detailed and include my actual OOP spending as well.

My personal January totals are as follows:
Total before coupons and savings totaled $1295.20. I had a total savings of $1188.35!  I spent $225.73 OOP and received $105 back in Extra Bucks for a saving rate of 92% for the month!  I believe January was a pretty great example of how being a Savvy Saving Shopper saves money.
